Activities

Graduation ceremony/alumni reunion

Our graduation ceremony is held once a year. On this occasion, we invite graduates and their relatives, as well as all alumni, professors, teachers and staff members. This event always proves to be a joyful night which reconnects old acquaintances and builds new connections to other alumni and the staff of our Geographical Institute.

HAInet

The Geographical Institute is part of HAInet, the online Heidelberg network. There you will find frequent updates on our Institute as well invitations for the alumni reunions. It is also the ideal platform to stay in touch with your former fellow students!
You will find out more on how to join under Participate (see below).

Work-oriented events

We are always looking forward to welcoming our alumni back as speakers for several events. These include lecture series, seminars, workshops and excursions which aim to provide our students an insight into professional life, teach practice-oriented competencies and sharpen our students’ ideas on additional qualifications.

Job exchange

You are looking for dedicated interns or young professionals? We are happy to put up your job advertisements on our bulletin board and include them in the newsletter of our internship initiative.

Public Relations

The colloquium Geography in various professional fields brings forth the reader Fields of Activity for Geographers. E-Posters of work-oriented excursions to companies and Columbus-articles by working geographers are further sources of information which will steadily grow throughout coming semesters. During the study- and vocational orientation phase, these can provide important assistance. The reader is also intended to contribute to our institute’s public relations work.

Participate

The Geographical Institute works closely together with Heidelberg Alumni International (HAI), the central alumni initiative of the University of Heidelberg. HAI is responsible for extending the worldwide alumni-network as well as enhancing regional and professional alumni-groups. HAI has been maintaining scientific and personal contacts between alumni and their university since 1996. The HAI-net (the online Heidelberg network), the alumni-magazine, the University’s e-mail address and several events are ideal means to stay in touch with fellow students and receive updates on the University of Heidelberg.

The Geographical Institute has its own group on HAInet. Once you have joined, you will receive frequent updates on our institute as well as invitations to our alumni reunions. It is also the ideal platform to stay in touch with your former fellow students!

The free registration only requires a few steps. You will be able to use all of the above-mentioned service offerings. As soon as your access is activated, please log in via the alumni-portal and look for our alumni-group. I am looking forward to a lively exchange with all our alumni.

Please let us know if you have any ideas or questions concerning our alumni group and activities. We are always grateful for your input!
